areas which included - 5 years driving in the Puget Sound
area, being honest, handling high value merchandise, and
making deliveries to major accounts.
With these key cover letter (job ad) requirements, read
through the cover letters - which once sells Ron immediately
as a good candidate for the driver / delivery position?
When I first began teaching cover letter workshops, I would
put the tiny ad up and have students tell me what key skills
needed to be addressed in the letter. Most people only
came up with 2 key skills - I was astounded that with only 5
skills in the ad that most people would miss 3 key skills
when writing a cover letter.
You can imagine if you create a cover letter thinking it's
great but in reality only list 1/3 of the skills required
that you possess in your letter - how many fewer calls for
interviews and lower salary offers you would receive.
This is a very simple cover letter and job ad analysis but
the same strategy should be used for all job seekers across
all income and job levels. Yes, it can be that simple
to land more interviews and better pay offers - because most
people do not analyze job ads to write their cover
letters.
