Your final cover letter paragraph is a call for action. State when you will contact the employer, or ask for an interview,
and then thank the employer for his or her
consideration.
In your cover letter say you will contact the employer the following week if you know the company name and phone number. This works better than saying you will call on
and follow up on your cover letter on a certain day.
If something comes up and you forget to call that particular day you won't end up looking like you have poor
follow-through after the employer receives your covering letter.
In closing, your final cover letter paragraph might read:
|
I am very interested in this position and will contact you next week to schedule an interview. If you have any questions please contact me at (555) 555-5555. Thank you for your time and consideration.
|
If you can't follow-up because you don't have the company's name, then state that you would like to schedule an interview. Your final
cover letter paragraph might read:
|
I am very interested in this position and would like to schedule an interview with you. Please contact me at (555) 555-5555. Thank you for your time and consideration.
|
In your closing cover letter paragraph, provide an overview
of the top skills you possess that make you well qualified
for the job. A retail sales representative might have
this in the first part of his or her closing cover letter
paragraph.

My experience as a Retail Sales Representative and Retail
Sales Service Coordinator, providing sales and service for
10,000 customers per year, makes me well qualified for the
position of Retail Account Manager. I am very interested in this position and would like to schedule an interview with you. Please contact me at (555) 555-5555. Thank you for your time and consideration. |
I
know that most people don't feel they can call employers and
talk with anyone before sending your cover letter. But
don't let that fear stop you before you write a cover
letter. My best friend, recently had me write her
resume, and I had told her that it would be good if she
called the employer before sending her cover letter and
resume. She said the ad stated, 'NO PHONE
CALLS.' However, after she had written her cover
letter she just couldn't wait and called the employer.
To her surprise, the hiring official answered her call and
she then learned more about the position that she should
have known before sending her cover letter.
