With 100's of cover letter samples out there - you
shouldn't copy sample cover letters. If you are like
the typical job seeker you think this is an easy and fast
way to create a great cover letter. You are
wrong! And you won't land as many interviews!
When you copy information from other cover letters you won't
land as many interviews for numerous reasons.
First,
you have not had to sit down and analyze and identify what
your best skills are for the position and describe them in
your cover letter - so you cover letter won't land as many
interviews.
Second, if you are merely copying other people's cover
letters, you won't have the same confidence level in your
unique skills that make you a top candidate. And in
this case your cover letter may land an interview but during
the interview you will have missed an opportunity to know
why you can excel at the top and then won't have the same
confidence in yourself that would convince an employer to
hire you.
Third, to land as many interviews as possible, you must
write targeted and customized cover letters. To do
this you must analyze each job ad and address the specific
job ad requirements in your letters. If you don't you won't
land as many interviews as others who take the time to do
this.
Fourth, when you analyze the job ad and keep it and your
cover letter, you can review it before your interview and
once again increase your ability to sell yourself uniquely
for the position. If you merely copy cover letters how
will you be able to do this effectively? You'll walk into
the phone interview or in person interview unprepared! And
this may result in not getting hired or not landing an
in-person interview because you weren't prepared during an
initial phone interviews.
Fifth,
if you write targeted and customized letters for say 5-10
jobs with similar job titles and requirements, you will
become very familiar with what employers want and this also
will boost your confidence and ability to verbally sell yourself.
Something you won't gain from merely copying cover letters!
So here are 5 key reasons why copying sample cover letters
doesn't land enough interviews! Take this to heart and
take the time to write cover letters that sell you the
best! You'll be glad you did.
It's often when people have been sending out 'copied cover
letters and resumes' for months that they really begin to
feel scared and begin to accept that maybe they do need to
