Faxing or e-mailing your cover letter, when requested, can land more
interviews that merely posting online - mainly because you have so
much competition when posting your cover letter online.
Pamela found a help-wanted ad for a Property Manager. The ad included the company name, address, phone and fax
numbers as well as an email address. That night she faxed her resume and cover letter, and called the next morning to follow-up.
She was set up for an interview two days later and complimented on
having the initiative to fax her cover letter and resume. As she was being interviewed, the employer took out a stack of resumes and cover letters about six inches high.
The employer said, "I've received over 100 resumes and cover letters. I just don't have the time to read them. I've decided I'm only going to interview people who fax their resumes to me. I've received seven faxed resumes and yours was one of them. I'm impressed that you followed-up so quickly."
Many employers also request that you submit your cover letter and resume to them by e-mail. If an ad includes fax numbers or an e-mail address along with the mailing address - take the lead. Fax or e-mail your cover letter and resume as soon as possible. Then follow-up
on your cover letter just like Pamela did.
