Identify
and De-Emphasize Your Weaknesses
Everyone has different weaknesses. It's your job before interviews to
identify your weaknesses and determine how you will de-emphasize them
and turn them into positives. Sherry was in my accounting and career
classes at a business college but had never worked in an accounting or
bookkeeping position. This is typical of the conversations that didn't
go anywhere when Sherry applied for jobs:
| Employer: |
"Tell
me about your bookkeeping experience." |
| Sherry: |
"Well,
I haven't worked in this field yet. But have completed an
Accounting Certificate Program." |
|
Employer: |
"That's
nice. Why don't you send us your resume and we'll keep
it on file." |
|
Working with Sherry to create her resume, I found
out that she had handled up to $66,000 per month in cash and receipts
for her sales department. Since Sherry's job title had been Sales
Associate, she had discounted anything in that job as useful to landing
a bookkeeping position. That's why she hadn't mentioned it when talking
with employers. But, as you can see it definitely relates and when
combined with her Accounting Certificate gives Sherry qualifications
that hook an employer's interest.
| Employer: |
"Tell
me about your bookkeeping experience." |
| Sherry: |
"Yes,
while I was with JC Penneys I processed over $66,000
per month in cash and receipts for my department. In
addition, I have an Accounting Certificate from
Renton
Technical College." |
| Employer: |
"Great,
sounds like you have just the type of experience we
are looking for. When can you come in?" |
|
Going From 0% to 100%
After practicing her new answer above, Sherry came in the next day with
a huge grin on her face. That morning she had called regarding three
different positions and each time was asked, "Tell me about
your bookkeeping experience." Using the response above, she
said her mouth fell open when all three employers asked her to come in
for an interview. This is an excellent example of how powerful it is to
learn more about yourself and your skills. Knowing each of your skills
fully and how to describe them so that they match what employers want
results in landing more second interviews, better job and salary
offers.
How Mark Also Went From 0% to
a 100% Interview and Success Rate!
Mark contacted me to assist
him with his resume and used my interviewing booklet. His testimonial
shows that he was having the same type of problem in conveying his
skills as Sherry had experienced.
Hi Regina, I know you probably
don't remember me, but my name is Mark Fredericks. You helped me put my
resume together and as a result I landed a job with a brokerage firm as
an Investment Representative. They were ranked the "11th Best Company
to Work For In America" by Fortune Magazine. The month I was hired
there were approximately 2300 applications received and less than 200
hired-I was one of them! And for the most part I owe it all to you. I
used your interviewing booklet to the fullest. I had a total of 7
interviews with 3 different companies and received an offer from all
three.
The difference was I knew where they were going with their questions
and the skills they were looking for as a result of using your
interviewing booklet. I wish you could have seen me, I was bursting
with enthusiasm and confidence. What a difference being prepared makes.
I think I have come a long ways considering I was 0 for 5 in interviews
before using your booklet. Again, your services made the difference -
thank you very much ... probably the biggest obstacle I had to overcome
was eliminating the military jargon and translating my duties in
civilian language. Any prior service soldier knows exactly where I am
coming from. I remember in some of my first interviews the difficulties
I had explaining what I did in the Army. A
recruiter might ask me, "What was your job in the Army?" and my
response would be, "I was the NCOIC of a weapons facility.".."What was
your most important task?" with my reply, "Well, when we went on DRF1
(which means Deployment Ready Force) status I would coordinate with the
CO (Company Commander) and 1st Sergeant to prepare for the mass
issuance of equipment and weapons"....talk about some confusing and
stressful interview situations!
However, after using your interviewing booklet I was able to
communicate my duties much more effectively. When asked what my job had
been in the Army my new response included, "I was an Operations Manager
with responsibility for $2.5 million worth of equipment and supplies.
My most important job function was overseeing support of 10 internal
departments and ensuring that all operations worked correctly in order
to efficiently support 200 staff members."
Not only did your services help me communicate my skills and duties on
paper, they also helped in my face-to-face interviews--the most
important thing to me. Again, thanks for all your help!

Achieve Interviewing Success
by Understanding and
Effectively Anticipating Each Phase of The Interviewing Cycle
Mark was able to turn around
the success of his interviews by learning how to understand the
interviewing cycle and how to anticipate and effectively prepare
answers for the vast array of questions he'd be asked during
interviews. As Mark's testimonial explains, my interviewing booklet
guides job seekers through each phase of the interview from initial
introductions--to the core of the interview. The core of the interview
is where most people get into trouble because they haven't anticipated
difficult questions they'll be asked and haven't prepared answers that
sell them in the best light. Learning how to do this effectively is a
key to interview success.
Most job seekers don't understand that the
interview can actually be seen as part of a 3-part cycle. My
booklet takes you through each part of the interviewing cycle and shows
you how to analyze your resume in order to identify questions employers
will ask you when looking at. It also guides you in identifying any
weaknesses an employer might perceive in your resume or employment
history and teaches you how to anticipate questions that may make you
stumble. You then learn how to overcome and turn weaknesses into
strengths. You'll also be guided in how to identify each employer's
needs and learn how to verbally market yourself so that you position
yourself as a top candidate. You're also guided in the development of
questions you can ask to sell your top skills--those skills an
interviewer might not inquire about but are imperative that you market
in order to land the jobs you want!
Plus, you'll learn key traits employers judge you and your interviews
by and learn how to determine what level of risk employers will
perceive in hiring you--as you always want to lower or eliminate such
risk! You'll also graph your interviews to determine the image you
present to employers. By going through these steps you'll learn how to
control your image and present yourself as highly qualified for the job
and salary you want!
For only $7.95 you'll be taken through a process that prepares you
thoroughly for your interviews and will result in your leaving
interviews having impressed employers all while increasing your own
self-confidence...and that's a great value! My interviewing booklet, Interviewing
Strategies That Have Increased Salaries! has
been used successfully by job seekers at all income levels from $20,000
to the $100,000+ salary range...and it incorporates all of my best
interviewing strategies. Here's another testimonial from an instructor
who uses my materials in her classes:
| Regina's interviewing booklet
is the best there is. It helps job seekers thoroughly prepare for their
interviews. When working with job seekers I consistently see their
confidence go up when using her interviewing strategies. Job seekers
report how impressed employers are with their interviewing skills...and
this then translates into more second interviews and more job offers! Angela
